The Lost Axe Head

2 Kings 6: 1- 7
And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. 2 Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell.” So, he answered, “Go.” 3 Then one said, “Please consent to go with your servants.” And he answered, “I will go.” 4 So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. 5 But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.” 6 So the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. So, he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 7 Therefore he said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So, he reached out his hand and took it.
It is interesting to see how he lost the axe head. He lost the axe head while he was doing a spiritual work.

He was helping to build a seminary. He was doing the work of God. Did you know that you can lose the keen edge of the power of God and be in church every Sunday morning? Did you know that while serving in any area of ministry, you can lose the keen edge of the power of God in your life?

He lost it while he was serving God. Is it really possible to be busy about the work of the Lord, without the Lord in the work? It certainly is.

He should have taken time to check his axe to make sure the axe head was on securely. But if he is like so many of us, we get busy doing ministry, preoccupied with home life, battling the stresses of life, overcoming the fear and terror of a pandemic, and fighting the devil’s temptations that we forget to check to make sure our axe head is properly secured and Sharpe.

If you have forgotten to seek the power of the Holy Spirit and your axe head is gone and you are there chopping away, chopping, chopping, chopping in the flesh. This week I encourage you to be diligent to ask God to give you back your cutting edge. As individuals and a church family we are leaving the energy of the flesh behind.

Over these seven day, don’t think you don’t have time, don’t think you are too busy to spend time with God and make sure the filling of the Spirit is in your life day by day.

A lot of believers have gone for many months and some for many years and they don’t realize that the power of the Holy Spirit has become dull with them.

Do you remember what the Bible said about Samson? After Samson had his hair cut in Delilah’s barber shop, the Bible says he went out to do as he had done before to fight the Philistines.

There was a time some of you could hardly wait to see how God would answer your prayer but now your prayers are cold and lifeless and it seems that the Spirit of God is not there.

Ephesians 5:18 states; “BE YE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.” Literally the Greek says, “Let the Holy Spirit continuously and constantly fill you.”
